ANNA BACHS HERRERA
PhD student (co-supervisor: Dr. Ian Mabbett)
Anna started her PhD in Chemistry at Swansea University in January 2021 under the supervision of Dr. Francisco Martin-Martinez, and co-supervised by Dr. Ian Mabbett. Previously, she studied in Catalonia (Spain), where she is from. Anna obtained her BSc in Chemistry from Universitat Rovira I Virgili in Tarragona (Spain) and her MSc in Chemical Engineering from Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya in Barcelona (Spain).
Initially, Anna main interests in science were limited to biomedical applications and drug delivery. However, she discovered a whole new world in her PhD project, which consists in modelling and developing biobased materials from biomass with a wide range of possible applications. Who would have thought a lab rat like her would end up doing computational chemistry? Having the opportunity to learn new things every day is amazing!
As much as she loves chemistry and science, she cannot focus without music! So you will always find her with the headphones on in the office. She brought her bass guitar all the way from Barcelona to Swansea.
